The American Educational Research Association, my professional organization, is meeting in Toronto next week, and I won’t be there. I’ve been on some watch list—and banned from Canada—since 2008. Jumping through bureaucratic hoops and lawyering up has not moved the situation forward a bit. I’m not the only one struggling with Canadian immigration (see below) Canada is a refuge in our minds and memories only. It’s no safe haven…in fact, Canada’s no Canada any more.
