Where Justice is Denied…

where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails and where any one class is made to feel that society is in an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob, and degrade them, neither persons nor property will be safe….   Frederick Douglass

With extreme apprehension I admit that it is starting again, The spark that can set the prairies afire, centered around the 2008 Republican National Convention. There is an organized resistance already, speaking in the languages and techniques of Earthfirst! and the ELF and the larger organized protests.

The thing that scares me is the rush to what B, in the latter communiques, called “the military error”. The dark undercurrents, rooted in fear of what this country has become, are bubbling to the surface. It’s too easy to glamorize the images we have seen of the time around the breakup of SDS and the start of the heavy weather, an easily romanticized time. My fear is that many are missing the lessons learned and the mistakes made and prices paid. The “military error” may only bring pain and misery. It’s hard to deal with the mixed feelings and apprehensions of knowing all sides of the story.

Please feel free to delete the preceding comment. I don’t know why I left it, it was more of a message to you and B. The movement is back and regrouping, for better or for worse. It’s easy to get caught up in the passion, it’s harder to see the aftermath.

    Thank you for everything.
