March 6, 2019Forty nine years ago today Diana Oughton, Ted Gold, and Terry Robbins, three American revolutionaries, were killed in an accidental bomb explosion in New York City. Take a moment today to remember them, and to recommit to the struggles that defined their lives: for Black Freedom and an end to racism and white supremacy, for peace and against war and empire, for equality, justice, and a humane future.

Fight Anti-Semitism, Support Ilhan Omar
March 5, 2019House Democratic leaders are throwing Ilhan Omar under the bus – and it’s an all hands on deck moment.
Tomorrow the House will vote on a resolution condemning antisemitism in response to Rep. Ilhan Omar as she dares to speak up for Palestinian rights and critique Israel in a way no other member of Congress is doing.
Of course antisemitism deserves condemnation and attention, but this is a scapegoating strategy straight out of the bully playbook to intimidate others from speaking up – and we need to meet it with a massive public vote of support for Rep. Omar.
Will you call your representative and demand they stand against these outrageous intimidation tactics? Here’s my representative (and please find yours):

Here’s what I said when I called:
I’m calling to share my support for Rep. Ilhan Omar and condemn the outrageous act of introducing a resolution about antisemitism in response to Rep. Omar’s criticism of Israel.
This resolution is not being introduced out of a genuine concern for antisemitism, it’s about attacking Omar for her criticism of Israel.
I am concerned about the anti-Muslim and racist components of the attack on Ilhan Omar.
Phone calls are *the* most effective strategy we can use as constituents to make sure our representatives hear the depth, breadth and extent of our outrage.

15 Years Ago, at the Academy Awards
February 24, 2019FIFTEEN YEARS AGO TODAY, we were at the Oscars with “The Weather Underground,” nominated as Best Documentary that year. The night before, at a roaring celebration, the film-makers rehearsed their acceptance speeches, sadly never given because the film didn’t win. Bill passed away months ago, and Sam sent me these notes just now:
Sam Green: Shame on you Mr. President!!!! . . . . just kidding . . .
(big laughs)
Bill Siegel: A film like this only gets made with the help of hundreds of people. You know who you are. There’s no way we can thank you all right now – we’re not even going to try – but we are going to be thanking you every day for the rest of our lives.
SG: A former member of the Weather Underground once told us they didn’t set out to make a movie, they set out to make a revolution. And we want to dedicate this award to the revolutionary spirit.
BS: Please understand us. For us, that’s about compassion, not violence, and it’s definitely not about war, it’s about love. I have a two and a half year old son, and I love my boy with all my heart. And I want my boy to grow up in a world with much more peace and much more justice than the one we’re living in right now. And I’m hoping that this year we can all work together to bring the love home and begin making that world.
SG: And a great first step would be voting George Bush the hell out of office!
(thunderous applause! . . . or alternatively, deafening boos)
