EMERGENCY!!! Suspend the Debates!

And if that sounds remotely reasonable, think of it as a dress rehearsal, a practice run, a prelude:

EMERGENCY!!! Suspend the Elections!

Thank you, Bill Ayers, for caring.

I know you are strong enough to withstand the right-wing hatefest being directed at you.

Keep up the good job and education is the key to success. I know because I got my GED and went on to get my Masters of Science and one day maybe my Phd.
Do not listen to the haters. They are angry because no one is falling for the politics of hate and divisiveness.

Mr. Ayers you are 5 yrs older than me, I remember those days, we never felt you were domestic terrorists then and now. How the world remembers the days of oppression, when police, fbi, etc., had no laws to follow, so many young people inured or killed, yet a navy guy, who wasn’t drafted, volunteered in the forces, bombing innocent civilians in another country that was no threat is a hero? How on earth does that work? I detest what they did to oppress all of us in the 60’s…………but many do not know, nor care to know.

I for one am proud of you for your view against the war, against federal and state authority that illegally took away your right’s. But, I thank you for being someone I will always remember with favor. Thankyou.

  4. Michael Everett says:

Why were Confederate military vets so quickly pardoned and reintegrated into society? Didn’t they fire on our flag? Didn’t they attack U.S. military facilities? Didn’t they attack our shipping? Weren’t they responsible for the deaths of 360,000 Americans? Didn’t they create the world’s first concentration camp where 13,000 Americans perished? Wasn’t their goal to destroy the United States and defend slavery? So why were the pro-slavery terrorists welcomed back while the Weather people whose acts were primarily symbolic to this day are treated like criminals and the flying of Confederate flags is widely accepted. Would it be OK if a state decided to fly a Weather underground flag on top of it’s capitol building?

Another thought: By 1950 we were great pals with the German and Japanese people. So are we saying what Weather did was vastly worse than the holocaust? And even while the right wing rails against the Weather underground who were doing their best to force the U.S. out of Vietnam, Vietnam itself is now a trading partner and enjoys friendly relations with the U.S. We don’t hear the Ayers haters attacking the U.S. for establishing relations with Vietnam. What’s wrong with this picture?

And finally, don’t for a second think this generation is finished with the assignments given it by history. All that is past is prologue. Now we’re finally ready for the main event.

    Mike

    Bill,

Do not allow all those venomous words against you weigh down you spirit. Maybe after the election you could come up to Grand Forks again everyone really loved the talk.

And remember as Nietzsche said, “Beware of those in whom the will to punish is strong.”

    Take care,
    Isham

Wow, it seems like this entire thread is divided into unrestrained hate and support. I’ll just try to throw my 2 cents in I suppose, being a active duty soldier and these days more concerned with truth than anything else.

I recently watched the Weather Underground documentary. I wasn’t even born until the early 1980’s, but the incredible amount of social upheaval that dominated the late 1960’s has always caught my interest, especially concerning the counterculture. My question is this…

The ideology, specifically Communism, was central to the operation of a LOT of the groups back then. By the time of Woodstock communism had already been demonstrated to be a failure as far as governments were concerned, and introduced untold hardships to it’s citizens ( and before I get hit with how it’s “never been tried”, If Russia, east europe, cuba, china, AND vietnam couldn’t execute it correctly, what makes anyone think that they could?).

I understand the need for an unifying vision for a force, but why not some other system? Why something as rash as communism? Why not a cleaner democracy, or a more socialized system like France and Germany have? How would Communism have solved any of the crises going on at that time? Also, currently? It seems to me that a one party state would have been tantamount to putting a bootheel to personal freedoms.

    Thanks for your time everybody.

There is a fight going on in the US at the moment – to get rid of the close personal friend of the Bin Laden family who is currently in the Whitehouse.

This globally loathed and feared terrorist has kidnapped and tortured thousands of people, has no regard for the rule of law, nor the checks and balances of the democratic system, and who has driven the country into astronomical debt whilst simultaneously enriching himself and his cronies who all seem to have the moral sense of a 2-year old as well as undermining the fundamental trust between corporations that the entire world depends on for its financil security.

And what did Obama do? He had coffee with a fellow member of an educational board on which they both served, and offered a level of Christian forgiveness for a checkered past.

Seems to me there is no such thing as a Christian Republican – every republican on here is as incapable of offering forgiveness as the worst terrorist.

  8. William Ayers should be in prison right now wearing an orange jumpsuit, and making his living as a jailhouse queen.

  9. Gary says:

Who are you calling a terrorist The biggest terrorist is Bush killing innocent people .He should be charged with war crimes. I was drafted in 1969 to vietnam a war i didn’t believe in .It’s like getting sent to prison for something you didn’t do. I was wounded 1 month before i was to go home and while in the hospital all druged up some how they got me to sign up for another tour .When i got home in 1971 I protested every chance I got.You haters out there should be out there protesting against the Iraq war.If you have never been to war I can tell you it’s hell

  10. Vicki says:

Dear Mr Ayers… I wasn’t about to write anything on your blog until I saw the utterly despicable and vile hatred that is being sent your way here… particularly from people who claim to be Christian. (Ever heard of ‘turn the other cheek’ brothers and sisters? Perhaps you need to go back to your bible).

I wanted to let you know that they are not the only voices being raised in this world. The only ones they are truly hurting with this putrid behaviour is themselves, for all thought has energy and what they send in your direction they will reap themselves. It is simply the way of the universe. I pray for THEM, because they will need our good thoughts if they are to release the hatred and anger they are sending out into the world and if we are to truly heal and move forward as one people.

In the meantime, my good thoughts are also with you and I hope you safely ride out the storm generated by the election.

    Kindest regards,
    Vicki.
