I am a leftist living in Nebraska and choose to stay. Any ideas? My website is http://www.ConflictCoachOmaha.com. All suggestions would be appreciated. Sorry about the UNL cancelation. The most interesting and totally unreported feature of this is that Angela Davis vistited Lincoln last month. People in attendance appreciated her message of empowerment. No one on the outside protested.

Bill, Thank you for the inspiration you have given me. Thru your writing and your speaking (you came to my schools in Elgin U-46 twice), you helped me grow as a teacher, parent, and person. So much you have said has held true in my mind and given me encouragement to work harder, try more, think more, open up to more, give more, and help more. I’m grateful.
I’m sad that you are being subjected to such mean spiritedness. Somehow, I’m guessing you have enough supporters close to you to rise above it. You once encouraged me as a teacher when I needed it. In my tiny way, I wish to return your kindness and generosity. Please know you have touched many in important ways thru your thoughts and actions. Thank you.

Hello Mr. Ayers: I am a conservative, a Republican, your quintessential all-American, capitalist-loving girl next door, probably everything you hate. However, I am also a journalist and a lifelong learner with an open mind for new ideas. As you have become such an intregal part of the presidential campaign I have spent some time researching you and your causes. You seem like a nice enough guy and clearly are a very passionate person, which I admire even if your thinking seems ass-backwards to me, but I have one serious question I would just like to throw out there. You’ve probably been asked this before, but if you love “small c communism” so much, why do you remain in America? Why not move to Cuba? Is it so you can continue to “enlighten” others or is it because you want to be able to stay on your soapbox while enjoying all the creature comforts only a capitalistic society can offer?

Recently, I’ve felt the need to keep my copy of Teaching Toward Freedom closeby. I reread favorite lines and think positive thoughts for you. I hope you know there are many of us wishing you well through all of this. Stay strong.

Did you help Obama write his book?

  6. Tusk says:

You and your terrorist murdering wife should be hung with a hemp rope!

You are no better than Timothy McVeigh. Karma’s a bitch motherfucker!

I was 14 when you did your murdering deeds and I remember your name and your cunt of a wife and it sticks in my craw like the “Son of Sam” and the Manson killings. You should have been shot like Gary Gilmore except that Gilmore had a lot more guts than you and went out with class. As a matter of fact, you’re not worth the lead in a bullet.

Down under in australia, we have a saying “Dont let the bastards grind you down”.

Chin up man, these bad old days will pass.

  8. Alan says:

After the Kent State killings in 1970, student riots erupted across the country. One night in Madison WI where I was a student at the University, there were exactly 49 bombings of buildings and vehicles recorded by authorities. By today’s definition applied to Bill Ayers, all 49 perpetrators are, today, domestic terrorists. They only harmed property, not people, just like Bill, who was never even charged with harming anyone. He was an antiwar protester who crossed the line when he blew up a few bathrooms and damaged some pipes, but that’s the worst he did. His efforts stopped the illegal Vietnam War before it otherwise would have ended, thus saving countless innocent lives. He is a true American hero and will be seen as such once the dust from the Republican mud machine clears.

All I know, Mr. Ayers, is the world today is much different than it was 40 years ago. I remember the Vietnam war very little since I was born in 1965, but I do remember my parents staunch support of the troops (POW bracelets and all) and strong disdain for the war itself. My own father could have been called to service.

You bear the deepest scars of your, and your groups, actions since you lost somebody you cared about as a result of these actions.

What you have done with your life since your resurfacing speaks volumes of the person you, as well as your wife, are. I personally hold no ill will and hope that you will continue to service state of Illinois and Chicago, in particular.

We are all imperfect vessels – we only hope that the good we do way outweighs the bad.

  10. Tony Jackson says:

    Bill;

All I can say is keep doing what you are doing in Chicago to further the progression of primary school education, especially in underserved areas. I cannot wait for Obama to be elected so we can move past the charachter assasinations toward people like you and start bringing this country together again. Thanks to the internet, it looks like “Rovian” political methodology has finally died the ugly death that it deserves…..
